Powerlifting and Oly lifting on the same day??

Hello again.
Finger better, not broken fortunately.

Back in the gym this morning. Did back squats and then onto deadlifts. I was pretty knackered after those (did 5x5 on 90kg back squat and 1x5 120kg dead).

I went to have a go at 50kg c&J...but I was too goosed. Probably not a good idea to mix those up on the same day?

I did however laugh out loud this morning when a wee fella walked in, donned a belt and proceeded to do 10k bicep curls in front of a mirror.

Dumb injury

I've crushed the top of my index finger on my right hand...duh I was loading up the bar and somehow managed to squash it under a 20kg plate!

Ah well...its an interesting shade of purple.

Today I worked on 5x5 front squat at 50kg and 5x5 clean and jerk at 45kg. I find clean and jerk a lot easier than snatch.
Space was at a premium today though. I really struggled late into the sets as I just wanted to drop the bar but the cancer of machines has spread into the furthest reaches of the gym. In front of me tonight were two contraptions..one was BOR machine (WTF!!!) and one of those shrug things. Also the gym manager was tutting at the chalk I was using.

I think a lot of gyms these days have moved away from powerlifting and olly lifts due to spurious health and safety concerns. Its easier to fill a gym with dumb machines too, seems like most people are content to do half a bench press on a smith machine followed by bicep curls.

I may attempt to persuade my in-laws to give up their garage! Fat chance of that though!!

Snatch struggles

Bloody hell...the snatch is a hard one to master. I was swearing like a mad man in the dark corner of the gym where I skulk. I kept swinging my arms out instead of keeping parallel. Then I wasn't powerful enough when I first lifted.


Practice, practice and more practice is required.

It wasn't easy as I was training after work too which is when all the body builders are in. I really wish I could rent some space to do my lifts in peace.

A day of results!!

NO, the post title isn't about my frequent trips to the sexual health clinic.

I've been after a good weightlifting book for a while and the best I could find was this baby. Bit pricey though.

So, today, whilst in Sunny Wigan I popped into the library and lo an behold, there it was!

I've only had it a few hours but its great!

Todays WOD: Back squat 5x5, Press 5x5, pull ups to failure x3 and 50 sit ups x3

I had the gym to myself too more or less. Usually when I arrive I see some guy doing bicep curls! I laugh out when I see that particular exercise..don't know why but there you go.

Sprints

Not done sprints since I was a child and in fairness, I wasn't a particularly sporty kid. Truth be told, I was a bit of a geek really.

Anyway...

today's WOD was as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of 1 min Sprints & 21 burpees.
